Most horizontal log splitters push the log through a vertical knife. Ideal for splitting longer lengths into Billets or for splitting multiple ‘rings’ in one action.

A truly versatile log splitter for splitting larger lengths & diameters of timber or for splitting a row of ‘rings’. Power options are electric, petrol, diesel, Tractor PTO or Tractor hydraulics. Horizontal log splitters are ideal if you have large diameter timber that is too heavy to lift and position vertically.
The wood is pushed through the 2 or 4 way knife, so ideal for Billeting long timber. The splitter can be used on the ground or held in the air on the tractors linkage or we can supply the splitter on legs so split timber is pushed through the knife onto a table or falls straight into a bag or box.
Options for loading include a simple ramp for rolling the log on, hydraulic winch for dragging and lowering the log on or hydraulic lift for lifting the log on. We can even fit a crane! Other options include hydraulic height adjustable 4-way knife or drop on 4-way knife. On some models it is possible to add a 6-way or 8-way knife but remember this greatly reduces the splitting force. Thin along these lines. To split a 30" diameter piece of timber in half you need the splitting knife to be at least 30" high. 30 ton splitting force with a 30" knife means 1 ton per inch of knife. a 4-way knife means 60" of knife so reduces the force to 1/2 a ton per inch of blade. A 6-way knife means 1/3 ton per inch of knife. An 8-way knife means 1/4 ton per inch of blade. Even with a 60 ton spitting force and 30" diameter timber a 4 way knife would mean 1 ton of force per inch of knife. It can be quite surprizing what even a 30 ton splitter will split in half, but remember the harder the timber and the more knots / twists there are then the more likely it is that you will be disappointed! A big horizontal log splitter will not necessarily solve your ‘large timber’ problems.
Riko can tailor make most horizontal log splitters in pretty much any length from around 50cm up to 3 meters but above 1.25 meters the likelihood of the timber starting to split and the split ‘running ahead’ of the knife and following its own path increases. In simple terms the split may disappear out the side half way along your 3 meter length of timber! All models come as standard with a single vertical knife. The electric and engine driven models come mounted on a solid axle with a towing eye.
